Updated comp list, and more

In addition to the competitions listed in the previous blog I think we (or I) am heading out to California for a competition on April 24,25 in Indio, California. I am also going to try and squeeze one or two more during the year I was looking at doing The Degaque event this year but funds would not allow it, so hopefully next year we can do that as well.
I got the approval of my local Health Department to get started on a mobile BBQ competition / vending trailer. It is not going to be anything big or fancy, looking at maybe a 7 x 14 i have found a few and the only problem i am having is that I am 6'4" tall, most trailers are either 6' or 6'6" I think i need a 7' trailer. We are also going to start working on the insulated smokers that we are going to build in the off season. More on those as we get started. I also have to go back for a final meeting for my BBQ Rubs to get them going with the bottling phase so I can sell them. We have alot on out plate, hopefully we can get it done before April!!!

THE JACK!!!

Well, luck has it that I am off this weekend, and The Jack Daniels BBQ competition is within driving range! I have decided to take off Friday morning and make the 5 hour drive after working 3rd shift the night before. I think it will be a great experience for me and the team (coming down later). Looking forward to meeting all the members of the BBQ-Brethren. I should be posting up some pics from the comp and maybe some video if i am able to.

Hoosier Daddy Now?!

Well, this past weekend was a blast, other than the torrential downpour, the 30 mph winds, and the fact that it was FREEZING out there. I guess that is to be expected when doing a competition on the river in October. Myself and another team member also took the KCBS BBQ Judging class on thursday night so we are now KCBS Judges. We placed 4th overall in the Backyard competition. Next year we are going to move up to the Professional division. Now onto the presentation boxes.

JT's Smokin Sweet Rib Rub / BBQ Sauce

I had a meeting earlier this week about possibly bottling my Apple Cinnimon and Spice bbq sauce AND my all purpose rub. I am also working on a Sweet Heat rub and a Ring of Fire rub (if you know what i mean) but this will all take time and money. I did however pick up 16 lbs of the all purpose rub yesterday and will be passing out samples to the BBQ Brethren that are competing at New Albany next weekend. If you are interested in trying a new rub leave a comment with contact info and I will see about shipping it out to you.

First Place Chicken (Trophy) Second Place Ribs (Plaque)

Looks like the drums can turn out some serious BBQ with a little help.

The last competition (Oldham County, Ky) wasn't a good showing by the Trash Can Guys. Not too sure how we did but i know for sure you could have played basket ball with my chicken skin it was so rubbery.

The next competition (New Albany www.hoosierdaddybbq.com ) is next weekend and it will be our last competition of the season. Lets hope for a good showing.

Columbus RIBFEST 2009

I just recieved a flier in my email about a backyard Ribfest sponsored by United Way and Columbus Area Arts Council. I will get more info, but you can bet that JT's Smokin BBQ will be there!!!

Rib and Chicken competition

Tomorrow JT's Smokin BBQ heads to Oldham County Kentucky to compete in a Rib and Chicken cook off. I (JT) amd heading up the Chicken portion of the event, I have a few new tricks to try out. Arnold is going to try his hand at some Ribs. Also for our turn in boxes we do not have to garnish them at all, it will be about taste, tenderness, and appearance of the meat not the greens around it. I will update with results.
